Bavarian brewmaster quality

It’s the carefully selected ingredients and the low-impact production process in accordance with Bavarian brewing traditions that make our “Helles” lager so special.

Here’s how it’s brewed:

We use only malted barley and bottom-fermenting yeast for our “Helles” – for our “Weissbier”, we use malted wheat, malted barley and top-fermenting yeast! We also use more hops for “Helles”.

How to get the right flavour:

Like the “Edelreifung” (bottle fermentation) for “Weissbier”, the longer cold storage time for our “Helles” is a sign of quality. True to the brewer’s motto “old and cold”, we store our “Helles” in tanks at low temperatures for an extended period. Unlike our “Weissbier”, which matures in the bottle after the main fermentation process, “Helles” is a Bavarian lager that matures at very low temperatures in the tank for several weeks. This gives it its harmonious flavour profile.

What makes it so crystal clear:

During the longer cold storage time, proteins and other cloudy substances slowly settle in a natural clarification process. In addition, we filter our “Helles” before bottling – for pure Bavarian lager enjoyment!

“Helles” Bavarian lager

Many names, one great taste: “Helles”, “Helles Lager”, “Hellbier”, “Bavarian Hell” or “Munich Helles” – no matter what it’s called, it’s the taste that counts! This bottom-fermenting Bavarian lager is characterised by its finely balanced hop and malt aromas.

If you had to give a general description:

straw-yellow to gold in colour, always clear with a thick frothy head, “Helles” makes you thirsty just from looking at it. Pleasantly soft, subtle and yet lively, Bavarian lagers taste mildly aromatic and fruity-fresh – and go down very easily.

It all started here:

it was only the invention of the refrigeration machine by Carl Linde in 1876 that made it possible to brew beer with bottom-fermenting yeast at a consistently cool temperature all year round. The first “Hellbier” was sold in North Germany in 1894 – initially as a test. It passed this test with flying colours and just one year later, “Helles” was finally also available in Bavaria.
